Magnitude 6.0 jolts Masbate; suspends classes, gov’t offices

The local government unit (LGU) of Masbate City suspended the classes in all levels and government offices (except frontline offices) Thursday, Feb. 16, due to the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck the province at 2:10 am.

In the rapid assessment conducted by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management (PDRRMO) Masbate, minor cracks were noted in private establishments and hospitals.

Tents were set-up outside the Masbate Provincial Hospital where the more than a hundred patients and medical staff will temporarily stay while the hospital building is being checked due to the cracks found inside.

Some portions of Magallanes Coliseum in Masbate City were destroyed as parts of its ceilings collapsed during the earthquake.

Office of Civil Defense Bicol said that there is still power outage in most parts of the province.

Local DRRMs are still assessing the extent of the damage of the earthquake.
