Buy only safe toys for holidays – DOH Bicol

The Department of Health Bicol reminds the public to consider buying safe toys for children this coming holidays rather than just considering its affordability, packaging, and attractiveness.

A safe toy should be suitable to the child’s physical capabilities and mental and social development. It must also be appealing and interesting, well constructed, durable, and safe for child’s age, according to DOH Bicol.

It is also important to check the labels on the packaging and observe the precautions appearing in the label. The label of toys must indicate the components, ingredients, attributes, direction for use, and specifications of the toy.

The labels are necessary because this proves that the toy have passed the inspection of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as stated in RA 10620 or the Toy and Game Safety Labeling Act of 2013.

DOH Bicol also suggested toys that suits the age of children. For 0-1 year old, toys like rattles, large brightly colored balls, unbreakable mirrors, and washable stuffed dolls and animals are recommended. For toddlers aging from 2-3 years old, wooden animals, dolls, sturdy kiddy cars, modeling clay, and rocking horses are advised. For preschoolers, from 4-5 years old, puppets, plush toys, building blocks, kites, and balls are best suited for them. I via Jona Bagayawa
