PH environmental planners gear up for global challenges at the 2022 NATCON in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY — More than 800 participants all over the country recently convened at the Legazpi City Convention Center in this province for the 2022 Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) National Convention (NATCON) and General Assembly, with the theme “Rise up to the Global Challenges through environmental planning,”

PIEP Board of Trustees President Maria Ana M. Pullido said the NATCON aims to strengthen networks and strategies with communities, various sectors and Local Government Units (LGUs) on mitigating the impact of climate change and strengthening disaster risk reduction and management.

”During the open forum we could see new things and concepts. If the (strategy) is old maybe we will come up with a new way to do it since we ought to leverage community-centric or risk informed systems that enable rehabilitation strategies,” Pullido said.

PIEP Vice President Adolfo V. Encila Jr. stressed the importance of environmental planners in policy making and program implementations of LGUs, particularly their local infrastructure projects to ensure that it will not affect the environment and communities.

”What we need is to work together and collaborate,” Encila said.

Aside from the learning sessions, the participating regions were also given the opportunity to showcase and market their local products and tourism in an exhibit.
