Eleven (11) members of the New People’s Army (NPA) belonging to Komite ng Probinsya 3 surrendered on Christmas day, December 25, 2022 at Brgy. San Antonio, Barcelona, Sorsogon, according to Bicol Philippine National Police.
Among those who surrendered is the Vice-Commanding Officer of Platoon 3.
The joint operatives of 31st IB Philippine Army; 96th MICO, 9MIB; 9ID, PA; Provincial Intelligence Unit-Sorsogon; 2nd PMFC Sorsogon PPO; 504th Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion and Barcelona MPS facilitated the surrender of the rebel returnees.
Also turned over to authorities were different firearms and ammunitions. These eleven individuals will be under the custody of the Philippine Army and shall undergo debriefing program and be part of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
They will also be receiving a financial package which includes immediate assistance, provision of reintegration process, a starting capital for livelihood, as well as remuneration for the surrendered firearms.
Meanwhile, the entire police force of Police Regional Office 5 in collaboration with the Philippine Army are on full alert status for any possible tactical engagements and harassments in relation to the 54th founding anniversary of the Community Party of the Philippines on December 26.
Police personnel were deployed in public places such as malls, churches, markets, parks, terminals and other areas of convergence. Foot and mobile patrols were also on the round-the-clock to monitor and deter any activities by the said group.
