Tectonic earthquake causes cracks in school buildings in Camarines Norte

Camarines Norte — Several schools in the province of Camarines Norte reported cracked room walls and buildings after the magnitude 5.3 tectonic earthquake on Wednesday, December 7.

The earthquake was recorded in Vinzons, Camarines Norte with the epicenter at 14.66N, 11 E- 19 km of Tinaga  Island of the said municipality.

The municipalities of Mercedes and Jose Panganiban of Cam Norte felt the earthquake at Intensity V which caused panic among the residents of Mercedes. Some students of Vinzons Pilot High School were treated due to hyperventilation according to MDRRMO Vinzons.

Several elementary, high school, and barangay halls in the municipalities of Vinzons, Mercedes, Paracale, and Sta  Elena, all of Camarines Norte reported minor cracks in their buildings. 

Meanwhile, assessment and inspection of damages in some of the establishments in the municipalities of Labo and Capalonga, Camarines Norte are still ongoing.

There has been no reported disruption of communication, water and power lines according to Camarines Norte PDRRMC as reported to Office of Civil Defense Bicol.
