Disney+ is now officially available in the Philippines joining a list of subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming services in the country that’s fast getting crowded. It’s huge library of premium contents rival that of Netflix and dwarf other streaming services like HBO Max, Amazon Prime, etc.
Here are few things to know before you subscribe:
1. PRICE
Disney+ offers two plan choices:
– mobile plan costs 159/month but only offers HD quality video on mobile phone or tablet. You will not be able to access it on your PC or TV nor watch on more than one phone or tablet.
– premium plan costs 369/month, video quality up to 4k and can be viewed in 4 concurrent screens and accessible on your mobile phone, tablet, PC and TV.
2. CONTENT
One word: FRANCHISES. No other streaming services offer premium franchises like Disney+. From Star Wars to Marvel Cinematic Universe to Pixar animations to beloved Disney classics, it’s all available on Disney+. You can also throw into the mix irreverent adult animation favorites like The Simpsons, American Dad, Futurama and Family Guy. Not to be missed are the popular tv series like Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, The Kardashians, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Criminal Minds, Xfiles, etc.
3. INTERFACE
It’s easy to navigate thru Disney+. All it’s contents are divided into 6 main groups:
Disney – contains all your favorite Disney movies and animations and specials.
Pixar – all Pixar titles can be found here from full animations to originals to short animations.
Marvel – all films and series under the Marvel Cinematic Universe are here. You have the option to watch by phase or by story timeline in order.
Star Wars – contains all Star Wars movies and series. You have the option too to watch them in timeline order.
National Geographics – contains award-winning docus and specials by NatGeo.
Star – from your favorite K-dramas to the more serious films and tv series are all here.
Disney+ contents lean towards family oriented audience so if there are kids (and kids at heart) in the family, subscription seems like a foregone conclusion. Not even Netflix can match it’s premium franchises. What it lacks though is the diversity of content as well as the award-winning originals and crime docu that Netflix offers.
So which should you choose? If you can afford, get both. The flashier contents of Disney+ will be a must for the kids while the gritty, more mature contents of Netflix will appeal to the adults.
You can now download Disney+ app from the playstore and have the option to pay via globe account or google play. (BM’S TIP: You can get big discount if you subscribe annually. Alipay even offers additional discount if you pay via Gcash/Alipay). I via Renato Jao
