Mukńa, a three-day creative industry convention held from December 12 to 14 at the 3rd Floor Ayala Malls Legazpi, aims to develop and promote inclusivity in Legazpi City through a conference, awards night, expo and visual art exhibits, creative entrepreneurs showcase, art merchants, family arts day, and tours.
Mukńa is a bicol word which means “to create or develop”. According to Ismael Jerusalem, one of the organizers of Mukńa, the goal of the convention is to further develop the creative industry in Legazpi City.
Jerusalem emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the creative industry, with the event’s closing ceremony being a family arts day for SPED students and their families.
“Actually today, it was hosted by Dee Jai one of the artist here in Albay, she’s hosting like meron syang art class for the kids and for the families including people with special needs to help them atleast learn more and appreciate more art and for them to be able to be included on this Mukna Creative Industry convention,” Jerusalem said.
Its organizers believe that everyone can be an artist and that people with special needs should be given a chance to showcase their talents as well.
The visual art exhibit showcased different art groups, promoting collaboration between groups and communities. The convention also offered a platform for local artists to showcase their crafts and learn more about entrepreneurship in the creative industry.
“We are trying to support them to learn more about entrepreneurship kase diba pag artist parang yung pagiging entrepreneur is another set of skill you need to learn pero we are encourage them to partner with DTI to learn more about the business side of the creative industry,” he added.
Jerusalem encourages aspiring artists to involve themselves in the creative community, as it can be challenging to create alone in today’s digital age.
“Many information are already available online, but it is really helpful if you try to build your own brand and creative career alongside the community. So, get involved, especially if you are an aspiring artist,” Jerusalem said.
Mukńa is part of the Creative Legazpi project, which is a project of the Malikhaing Pinoy Lunsod Lunsad grant of DTI competitiveness and innovation. With its emphasis on inclusivity and community involvement, Mukńa aims to develop and promote the creative industry in Legazpi City. | Jeric Lopez
