Additional medical space for indigent patients opens May 9

LEGAZPI CITY – The third floor of Legazpi City Hospital opens Tuesday, May 9, that will serve as an additional space to accommodate indigent patients.

The said activity started with the blessing of the facilities, followed by the messages from the key persons.

City Mayor Geraldine Rosal, Vice Mayor Bobby Cristobal, Councilor Alex Jao, LCH OIC Dr. Lady Ann Serrano, and Dr. Jun Orense of Department of Health (DOH) Bicol attended the event.

During the press conference, LCH OIC Dr. Lady Ann Serrano highlighted the importance of additional medical facilities to cater medical needs of the people especially that COVID-19 is still experienced.

“Actually po, required pa rin po ang lahat ng hospitals to have their dedicated beds for the COVID patients so right now po since we have 75, meron po kami 23 beds for those patients,” Dr. Serrano said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rosal affirmed that the budget of the city allocated for health services is enough and adequate to the needs of citizens.

More than facilities, the hospital also assures free service and medical assistance to all indigent patients of Legazpi City including hospital bill and medicine.

“Ang sa medicines po, we make sure na mabibigay natin lahat lalo na sa ating indigent patients so lahat po kinakaya po na maibigay ng hospital kung anu po ang available,” Dr. Serrano added.

Dr. Serrano clarifies that Legazpi City Hospital is a level one hospital, which means can cater minor medical needs including Caesarean Section and minor surgical procedures.

Therefore, ICU and patients that need higher care is referred to other hospitals. | Aaron John Baluis
