Noel Vargas, 66, a barangay kagawad of Barangay 29 Sabang, Legazpi City, died after getting stabbed multiple times inside his home on Wednesday, March 6.
Grappling with a profound sense of loss, residents of the said barangay mourn the death of Vargas.
According to Sabang Barangay Captain Esmael Santillan, the suspect, an acquaintance of the victim, was able to enter Vargas’s house with the unsuspecting approval of the victim’s wife.
Once inside, the assailant then stabbed Vargas to death with a bladed weapon.
Vargas was immediately rushed to the hospital; unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities were able to promptly take the suspect, who’s set to be charged with murder.
“Nawalan ang barangay ng isang haliging amin talagang naaasahan,” Santillan stated, noting that Vargas’s untimely death is a heavy blow to their collective strength as the governing body of their barangay.
“Mabait si kagawad, siya talaga ang nilalapitan ng mga nangangailangan,” Santillan added.
Santillan further emphasized the significant loss felt by the residents, expressing how deeply saddened they are by Vargas’s passing.
