Beyond Bouquets

Legazpi City — In a world of cliches, often swept away by grand gestures and extravagant gifts during Valentine’s Day, there’s a growing trend of embracing practicality in expressing love—some seemingly odd, maybe laughable for most people, but are one of the sweetest ways to do so—like giving ointments as a gift.

This year, as heart’s day ensues, a multitude of individuals are opting for a unique route of manifesting their pure affection by gifting ointments to their significant other—a gesture that goes beyond what’s conventional, yet holds a practical charm.

Michelle Buenaflor, a 31 year-old ointment vendor, expressed her sentiments, “In my line of work, I witness firsthand how ointments can be a unique yet profoundly meaningful expression of love. Customers often share stories of how ointments, as gifts, make a difference in their relationships, providing comfort and care in unexpected ways.”

While chocolates and flowers are classic choices that bore the beautiful essence of love, ointments, as out of this world as it may sound at first, can too offer such grandeur—in fact, with a blend of care and functionality, it somehow is a bit better—at least for me, that is.

Think about it—what better way is there to show love than by providing soothing relief for your partner’s daily aches and pains? Whether it’s a muscle rub for those who wear their bodies out at work or something to keep them conscious from all the stress, I think we can all agree that such gifts clearly reflect a thoughtful consideration for the receiving end’s well-being—in other words, a thoughtful way to love someone.

“Choosing ointments as a gift isn’t just about the product itself; it’s about acknowledging and addressing the practical aspects of our loved ones’ lives—it’s about caring for their well-being on a daily basis, and that, to me, is true love,” Ria Buendia, a shopper considering ointments as a gift for her parents this heart’s day, stated.

An ointment, carefully chosen to cater to your loved one’s specific preferences or concerns, speaks volumes about your attentiveness and your desire to care for that person—it’s a subtle yet meaningful way to say, “I want to be there for you, to provide you comfort, not just on special occasions but every day.”

So, with a few hours left of Valentine’s Day, consider breaking away from the conventional and embrace the beauty of practical love. After all, love is not just about grand gestures but also about the simple, seemingly odd for the occasion, but requires pure compassion—things that make life together more meaningful.
