Flooding hits multiple barangays in Donsol, Sorsogon

DONSOL, SORSOGON — Several barangays in this municipality were affected by flooding on Monday morning, September 1, following continuous rains brought on by a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) confirmed that floodwaters had risen in several hazard-prone areas across the town.

Among the affected areas is Brgy. Gura, where swelling has been observed near and along the highway, with possible further flooding expected in the coming hours. Brgy. Tinanogan and Brgy. Dancalan have reported knee-deep floodwaters, with roads in Tinanogan already impassable to light vehicles.

Flooding is also affecting Brgy. Tres Marias Drive, the main route to Donsol Community College, where knee-deep waters and strong currents have rendered the road inaccessible to light vehicles. Meanwhile, the Poblacion barangays of Awaii, Rawis, Bororan, and Poso are experiencing similar knee-deep flooding.

Don Llagas, a resident of Brgy. Tres Marias, told BicoldotPH that water levels in their area had been rising steadily since around 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. He also noted that clogged drainage canals may be contributing to the overflow.

Authorities are advising motorists and residents to exercise caution when traveling through affected areas and to monitor updates from official channels.I Jay-R Nabor
