Newly opened Legazpi City College now TESDA accredited

LEGAZPI CITY—The Technical Educational and Skill Development Authority (TESDA) has granted the newly opened Legazpi City College (LCC) a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program registration, giving opportunities to those students who want to enroll in the Agricultural Crop Production NC 11 course.

Archie Grande, the regional director of TESDA V, handed over the certificate of the TVET program to Legazpi City Mayor Geraldine Rosal during the blessing and inauguration of the LCC northern campus on Wednesday, March 20, with an initial four rooms on a school building located inside the 1.4-hectare lot owned by the city government in Brgy. Buyuan.

She said that her administration is also awaiting the approval of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the 4-year Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business, whereas the first batch is expected to start in August this year.

“Originally, this structure was for the extension building of Arimbay National High School, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out because the face-to-face classes had been suspended due to the restrictions at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and so we decided to use it for the operation of LCC to pave the way to enroll in the vocational courses offered by TESDA,” Rosal added.

She said that her administration will also construct additional rooms as expansion spaces in the school buildings to make sure more students can be accommodated and benefit from the tuition-free offerings.

Rosal said that the City Engineering Office (CEO) has already started the clearing of lots for the construction of the main campus of LCC to provide a shorter distance for the students residing in the southern part of the city who would be interested in the technical and vocational offerings.

She said her administration has allocated P2 million as initial funding for the four-room school building located within the four-hectare land area owned by the city government in Brgy. Taysan.

“We will use this property for the benefit of our constituents, and through this LCC, our students will minimize their travel time and reduce transportation expenses,” Rosal added.

Rosal said those interested students can now inquire with LCC about the TESDA short course on Agricultural Crop Production with a free tuition for the qualifiers of the program.

The LCC was materialized through City Ordinance number 16-0009-2022, authored by Vice Mayor Robert Oscar “Bobby” Cristobal and enacted during the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) 16th regular session on November 22, 2022, and was approved by Mayor Rosal on January 30, 2023. I Emmanuel Solis
