ASPIRE Feeding Program kicks off, takes on cafe-like atmosphere

Presenting a cafe-like experience, the ASPIRE Feeding Program was formally launched at Anislag National High School in Daraga, Albay, on Friday, February 2.

As part of the Augmenting School’s Performance Indicators as Result of Education (ASPIRE) initiative, said program aims to aid 107 severely wasted student-recipients in attaining healthy and sustainable weight levels, and doing so with a touch of a cafe-like atmosphere.

“Entering its third year, this project aims to enhance the nutritional status of students, particularly those with lower reading and numeracy skills. Research indicates a correlation between academic performance and nutrition, underscoring the need for interventions, like this program of ours, to mitigate dropout risks.” Hela Rizalie Nimo, ASPIRE project head, expressed.

Collaborating in this effort are the Ang Probinsyano Party-list (APPL) and the Department of Education Albay.

Nimo stated that while feeding programs take on a negative feel for students, they decided to partner up with APPL to achieve a new feeding experience—a cafe-like one.

The program will take place during recess from Monday to Thursday within the span of four months. On Fridays, parents are to attend lessons on preparing nutritious meals for their children.

Apart from the feeding part of the program, students will also receive lessons on food processing and other skills to continue improving their health. I Kian Kirby Florano
