Legazpi City Clinches SGLG Award for 6 Consecutive Years

Legazpi City maintains its remarkable streak as a six-time awardee of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Mayor Geraldine B. Rosal, alongside department heads, was presented with the appreciation plaque and a Php2.3-million cheque by DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos at the Manila Hotel on December 13.

In a phone interview on Thursday, Mayor Rosal highlighted the city’s consistent compliance with the DILG’s criteria, covering areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, health compliance, sustainable education, business friendliness, competitiveness, peace and order, environmental management, and tourism and cultural development.

Expressing gratitude to the dedicated city workforce, Mayor Rosal emphasized that the award underscores Legazpi City’s commitment to transparent governance, benefiting various stakeholders.

“I thanked all the department heads and the work force of the city government and considered them as the keys to reaping this SGLG award as they rendered work with dedication to the people of Legazpi,” Rosal said.

Mayor Rosal also acknowledged the positive impact of the SGLG award on investor confidence, noting increased investments and the establishment of major businesses that have significantly contributed to the city’s economy. The P2.3-million cash award received by the city will be allocated to vital infrastructure projects for the benefit of Legazpeños.

The SGLG award stands as the highest recognition from the DILG, acknowledging local government units (LGUs) for good governance, effective delivery of social services, and adherence to management principles like transparency, accountability, and responsiveness. This program serves as an incentive for LGUs to continuously strive for progress and enhance their overall performance. I Emmanuel Solis
