Castilla, Sorsogon— Angat Pinas Inc. Chairperson and President Atty. Leni Robredo led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Castilla Campus girls dormitory project on Monday, November 27, signifying the start of its construction.
Present during the event were SorSU President Dr. Geraldine De Jesus; Councilor Development, Australian Embassy Thanh Le; SorSu Castilla Campus Director Prof. Andrew Detera; Chairperson of Siklab Lingkod Bikol (SLB), Ronald Rodriguez; Executive Director of Angat Pinas Inc. Raphael Martin Magno; teaching and non-teaching staff of SorSU; and some students.
The goal of the project is to break barriers in attaining quality education, and to lessen student drop-outs especially to those who live in far-flung areas.
“Dakulaon na bagay dahil dawa libre pa an tuition, magastos man giraray sa istaran and sabi ngani kasubago we have to break the barriers to attain quality education,” Robredo said in her speech.
[Translation: “Ang laking tulong dahil kahit libre pa ang tuition gagastos pa rin sa tirahan, ang sabi nga kanina, we have to break the barriers to attain quality education.”]
De Jesus expresses her gratitude to Angat Pinas Inc. and Australian Embassy that their university has been picked to become the recipient of the dormitory for their students because the university is in the process of developing infrastructures since they want to promote agricultural education.
“With you, what you give us not only a complete structure but as a way for us to inspire our students and shape a much better future for the Philippine Society,” De Jesus said in her speech.
The dormitory project will benefit some students in SorSU who live in far-flung areas and travel long hours just to get to the university.
Meanwhile, Supreme Student Council president Joshua Fajardo said that some of his classmates need to travel by sea sacrificing just to acquire quality education.
“Kaya sa totoo lang po maogmahon kami na saro ang SorSu Castilla Campus sa napili nindo para patindugan nin dormitory. Dahil po sa programang ito siguradong matutulungan ninyo ang mga benipisyaryong mag-aaral na mapabuti ang kalagayan nila habang nag-aaral,” Fajardo said in his speech.
[Translation: “Kaya sa totoo lang po masaya kami na isa ang SorSu Castilla Campus sa napili niyo para patayuan ng dormitory. Dahil po sa programang ito siguradong matutulungan ninyo ang mga benipisyaryong mag-aaral na mapabuti ang kalagayan nila habang nag-aaral.”]
Furthermore, this project will aims to bridge students from different towns and cities who want to pursue the field of agriculture, making sure that they have a secured place to stay while learning. | God Frey Las Piñas
