Almer S. Olino, a Civil Engineering freshman from Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) in Nabua, Camarines Sur victored the 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz Regional Championships held at RDC Hall, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office V last November 10.
According to Clemente Manaog, director of Planning and Management Service, it was ‘a come from behind win for Camarines Sur’ as Olino was already defeated in the first round but capped the second and final rounds.
A total of seventeen (17) college freshmen across Bicol region competed.
As the provincial champion, Olino received a cellphone as an award and a printer was also given to his coach Mark Ronel Ocbian.
According to Olino, since the regional championships unfolded just three days after the provincial round, they only have little time to prepare.
“Our preparation strategy mainly involved discussing and addressing potential questions amongst ourselves, given the tight timeline,” Olino said.
Olino added that they relied on online sources and previous competition materials to familiarize with the format and types of questions in the quiz.
They also conducted mock competitions, and sought guidance from their coach with tips and strategies to improve their performance.
“Securing the third consecutive triumph for the CSPC in the Philippine Statistics Quiz Regional Championship, I couldn’t suppress the overwhelming pride and appreciation for my mentor, coach, and all those who stood by me during this remarkable journey,” Olino said in an interview with Bicoldotph
