Bicol University’s 8th president, Dr. Arnulfo Mascariñas formally presents his major accomplishments during the End-of-term report themed “Building legacies, future proofing the University,” on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Legazpi City Convention Center, Legazpi City.
In a program that lasted for almost an hour, Mascariñas presented all his major achievements including the changes he made as the president of the said institution.
His speech centered on all infrastructures, curriculum and policy development he had implemented for the last eight years.
Despite the accomplishments, the official student publication of Bicol University (Unibê) believes that a quick discussion of the student’s situation should have been part of his report.
In a report posted in the publication’s official Facebook page, Unibê claimed that no discussion was made on pressing issues inside the university.
“No discussion was made on the pressing issues in the university such as the situation of academic freedom, harassment of students by alleged police officials, and the failure to pass student legislation such as wearing clothes on graduation based on gender expression,” the report reads.
BU is widely known for having active students who takes part in various university and community-based activities which aims to foster and uphold academic freedom, gender sensitivity, and freedom of expression.
Said program wrapped up at around 5:11 p.m. with almost 1,200 attendees of BU officials and student councils.
Meanwhile, BU is set to elect its new president with six official candidates vying for the highest position in the institution. | via Ken Oliver Balde
